Stratford High School students' work
accepted by Google Earth
Students in Michael Eason's computer programming/web page design
programs are busy making news:
The first building accepted into Google Earth from our Moncks Corner
History and Web project is the old Berkeley High School. The 3D
model was created by Nicholette Alonge, Stratford High School class
of 2012. If you open Google Earth (or Google Maps) and search for
107 East Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC, it should take you directly
above our 3D building (and flag pole). Zoom in, change the angle a
little, and you will see the 3D model. Our web page for this
building is http://www.michaeleason.net/mcproject/oldberkeleyhs.htm.
Nicholette is still working on the history of the building and it
should be finished soon.
The second building project recently accepted with Google Earth is
the old train depot at 100 Behrman Street, Moncks Corner. This model
was created by Dylan Campbell who graduated earlier this year.
Behrman Street
Dylan graduated June 2011 and is employed by Bosch and was recently
accepted into their apprenticeship program.
Feel free to check out the rest of the web site (
http://www.michaeleason.net/mcproject/ ) for other building projects
we are completing: The Cherry Hill Community Center and the Berkeley
County Court House. Each student is also working on the building's
history.
On another note, as of today, all students working on this project
have become Adobe Certified Associates in Dreamweaver.
The students have also been busy working on a video. They have
recorded interviews with several descendants of Moncks Corner's
first public school teacher Annie Hare McCants (she first taught in
the Guilds House and was later principal at the old high school
building). The students are editing the video to include images of
various historical buildings. The video includes interviews with a
grandson, a great-granddaughter, and a great-great-granddaughter
(all graduates of BHS). A great-great-grandson, current freshman at
BHS, was also interviewed. In addition, we are talking with a
teacher at Berkeley Elementary about interviewing some of her
students.
We hope you will access all information regarding the students' 3D
models of the Depot and the Old Berkeley High School at
http://www.michaeleason.net/mcproject/buildings.htm. The 3D models
are visible in Google Earth (turn on 3D Buildings) and in Google
Maps (select Earth view rather than Map or Satellite). The
historical information is visible on our web site and in Google
Earth, but not in Google Maps.
