Lego League Robotics Club
The KWH (Kids with Hope) at Westview
Elementary School in Goose Creek are discovering....The LEGO
League Robotics Club explores solutions to alternate energy
sources to the
Power Puzzle challenge. The challenge is sponsored by the
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) through FIRST(For Inspiration and
Recognition of Science & Technology). Students discover
technology academics,
building team skills, and science knowledge by
searching for solutions to the energy challenge.
This year’s challenge brings together
students, mentors, and volunteers to address the topic of
alternative fuel energy sources. Santee Cooper, Alcoa,
and Berkeley County School District Energy experts have
volunteered to assist students with energy audits.
Students engage two afternoons each week to write programs,
build LEGO extensions for robots, and prepare energy audits.
The Lego Robotics Team will present solutions at the 2007
Trident Regional FLL competition. Berkeley County
School District has sixteen robotic clubs in the elementary,
middle and high schools.

Tristan Baldwin and Joey Riddle choose
Lego pieces, in an attempt to move the robot accurately to
the river.

The Lego robotics club members brainstorm
solutions for their coal mining mission.

The Lego Robotics club prepare to board
the bus and visit the Solar Energy project at Sangaree
Middle School. Pictured with the club are Nancy Leigh
(assistant Principal of Westview Elem School), Tana Lee
(club advisor) and Dean Smith, right end, club mentor from
