NCIS from the Charleston Naval Weapons station came out to participate in Westview Middle Schools Annual Career Day coordinated by Stephanie Hall, Guidance Counselor. This year Westview Middle had over 110 speakers for their 6, 7, and 8 grade students. Pictured are Special Agent Stanley Garland and Special Agent Frank Pruzzi came to Mrs. Pippens-Brown and Ms. Fann’s classroom to discuss the requirements and training needed to become Criminal Investigators for the Navy. The two also stressed the importance of getting good grades and staying on the right side of the law. Many of the students were shocked to learn that to be considered for employment with NCIS an in-depth background investigation is conducted. The background investigation team goes all the way back to the time that you entered school. Unfortunately, bad choices made as early as elementary school can have a negative impact on you being selected for a position with NCIS. As a culminating activity, the agents simulated evidence collection at a fictitious crime scene. The students were dressed as actual crime scene investigators wearing the hazmat suits, safety glasses, and special shoe coverings. The students were then shown how to collect a tire tread mold to be sent to the crime lab to be analyzed. The students really enjoyed the visit and Agents Garland and Pruzzi stated that they will be back in the future!!!! |
