From the desk of Janet Hodge, SCACTE-HST Division President:

Welcome to a new year, 2008, and as your president for 07-08, I want to share some thoughts with you about our organization. I will let you examine number related to membership, opportunities available to all Health Science Technology Educators, and dates to add to your calendar. I will start with our recent HST Professional Development Winter Conference held in Myrtle Beach, January 24-26, 2008.

First, I want to thank Eric Cockrell and Nancy Allen for all of the HARD work preparing such an awesome conference for us!  Eighty-eight HST educators participated in our conference and if you were NOT there, you missed So Much!

Lisa Wofford, thanks for working hard on the awards section of this conference!  I was so proud to announce all of our award winners at the SCACTE board meeting on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008.  Good Job!

I encourage you to put our conferences on your calendar each year.  (The month for our winter conference may change next year to early February.)  Add the Education and Business Summit held in the summer when we meet again.  This year it is in Greenville beginning June 22 and ending on June 26.  Our HST Division day is Wednesday.  We always learn so much, share so much, network with each other, and have such fun!  Once you go, you are HOOKED!

I want to thank the HST Division for paying the registration for me to attend the National ACTE Convention December 13-15, 2007.   It was my first time attending and I was truly amazed at the opportunities that are available through our organization. I was delighted at the choices of programs we had to investigate while there and the keynote speakers we heard were just fantastic. If you would like to attend this year, it is in Charlotte, NC.  Just email any officer and we can give you information.  (December 4-6, 2008)

Grace Decken, our SC-ACTE President –Elect, is one of our own SC HST Teachers from Daniel Morgan Technology Center.  She shared with us that the Business Education Division have 94 members, Guidance has 87, and Administration has 73.  Our Health Science Technology Division now have 80 members with 220 HST teachers in SC!  We want to increase our membership to represent the number of teachers we have.   Please contact any one of the officers listed in the back of the SC HST Program Directory if you need help joining or go to acteonline.org

Now, I want to encourage each one of you to support our SC Association for Career and Technical Education (SCACTE) and our division for HST by joining TODAY if you are not a member.  MEMBERS make the organization and we NEED you!  This is a great opportunity to network with others from our state and nation, serve as a division, state, or national officer, or receive an award as a member of ACTE, SCACTE, and HST.  (ACTE is the national organization-Association for Career and Technical Education, SCACTE is the state organization for CTE, and then our division.)  Believe me!  You want to join today!

Congratulations to the four membership renewals, eight new members, and two student members!  Welcome to the following renewals and new members:

Jason Whaley, Michael Nirenstein, DeDe Heard, Kendra Newman, Wren Clarke, Patricia Smith, Cheryl Isely, Sandra Field, Colleen Price, Bob Rentschler, Jonathon Parker, Mike Brode.  (random order) We want to add your name to our growing list today!
