Greetings from the Health Science Educators Division!

Lila Abraham, 2009-10 SCACTE Health Science Educators Division President and Twanda Addison, President-elect attended the ACTE Region II Conference September 25-27, 2009 in Savannah, Georgia.  Thanks to our division for assisting us with stipends to attend this convention. In the Region II awards program, Lila represented SC ACTE as the Outstanding New Career and Technology Teacher and Twanda represented SC ACTE as the Teacher of the Year.

In February we shared information from the Region II conference at our annual professional development conference in Myrtle Beach and will report again at the 2010 Education and Business Summit.

Grace Decken, Daniel Morgan Technology Center represented our Health Science Educators Division at Region II, and ACTE 2009 Annual Convention and Career Tech Expo in Nashville, Tennessee as the ACTE Health Science Education Division Vice-President.  She represents all of us well. We are very proud of her.

Lynne Clarke, Aiken County Career and Technology Center has been elected to the executive committee for the National ACTE Health Science Education Division as the secondary teacher representative.  Congratulations Lynne!

Our annual SC Health Science Educators Professional Development Conference was a success!

Happy New Year!  2010!  Amazing!

One last message from Janet Hodge, Past President for SCACTE-Health Science Division

Wow, we had a great SCACTE meeting on Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn but I missed my buddies!  Hope you will be back soon!  Health Science always has such a great representation at the SCACTE meetings.

Hope you have made plans to attend our annual Professional Winter Conference!  It is the BEST conference you could possibly attend!  You will receive lots of great tips to carry back and incorporate in you classrooms to keep your students engaged in the work.  This is a great networking opportunity, too.

At the SCACTE meeting on Saturday, Kathy Bradford, stated that she attended our conference and was amazed at the conference information we received!  She encouraged any of the other officers to attend if possible.  THEREFORE, you do NOT want to miss this grand opportunity to HOOK yourself and come every year!

Presently Health Science has 56 members and we are down by 12 members!  Help RECRUIT new and renewal members!  Ask your neighbors at school if they are members or email them!  Then encourage their participation by visiting the website or scacte.org or acte.org.  We receive liability insurance now as well as many other perks!

Remember you must be a member to receive state or national awards and you must be a member for your students to receive any of the scholarships given through SCACTE!  Check the web again for requirements for these awards!

Have a great year!  Join and help our voices heard through SCACTE and ACTE Health Science Divisions!  There is strength in numbers!

Janet Hodge
